So I'm house-sitting for a certain someone and being that I have a limited amount of my stuff  here I've taken to watching Downden Abbey on Netflix streaming and painting these little gouache studies... this is the one from last night.

A new year

The New Year is a time when change can be a welcomed thing. With 2009 comes the opportunity to create new traditions and maybe change my routines a bit.  I usually make a New Year's resolution or two, and stick to them fairly well. As always I am looking to this New Year as a chance to bring interesting things into my life.  My New Year's Resolutions are as follows:

1. Paint or draw one miniature a day (the first of which is above. A persimmon in                       prismacolor shades of orange and red).
2. Take a photo everyday. ( I'm hoping to make this a polaroid a day if budget allows)
3. And small but significant... Make my lunch to save money and eat something other than soup.

I have intentions of also posting the results of my efforts here, either in the photo or the miniature which makes me post everyday as well, maybe a hidden fourth resolution.

Holiday Craftacular

PCM's Holiday Craftacular was this Saturday and I made all kinds of winter inspired miniatures to sell. I make paper shoes of all kinds, and love the few I made for the show. I also crafted my miniature scenes atop vintage teacups instead of inside domes.  This one of the woodland squirrel was loved by many and found a home.

I love these queen bee shoes. They stand quite a ways off their pedestal and seem to be teetering on these delicate dried blossoms.

2 days until the Holiday Craftacular

Two days and counting to Craftacular!  The Don (Cheryl) of Petaluma's craftiest family interviewed me for their blog. Check out the interview here.  There were some pretty interesting questions including one on who I'd invite to the ultimate dinner party. Among the guests would have to be MJ of course. Will post pics sooner to show!

New Pieces for Craftacular

New version of my miniature worlds...this time created atop a vintage teacup!  I am making these for the Craftacular show coming up in December hosted by the Petaluma Craft Mafia. The price point is lower so they will be the perfect holiday gift for any budget. I will also be teaching a class on these in March at the^workshop in Berekeley!

My First Etsy Sale!

New Pieces...

Two new pieces custom made for a friend's wedding Thank You's. Her instructions were 1. something "creepy beautiful," and 2. something with a unicorn. I had fun making them both. Of course they will both be housed under the protection of a dome, encased in their own little space, but they photograph better without the cloche.

Doll House for Mila

Working on a dollhouse for my Boyfriend's daughter's 3rd Bday. I started with a wooden blank house (purchased from Michaels) and have painted the outside and wallpapered the inside.

This is the bookshelf inside the attic. The girls (Mila soon to be 3, and Nadia 5 1/2) love to be told stories and read to, so this is an important addition to the dollhouse.

I wanted the house to have a whimsical feel, so the colors are very little girlish and the painting is loose. The sides of the house are painted like brick, the front has ivy with flowers, and the roof is scalloped like singles, but all pink

I chose a paper for the inside that is also loosely painted and has soft colors.

Mila requested cupcakes for her birthday, so the kitchen is set with miniature cupcakes to celebrate.

I've used furniture from a dollhouse I had when I was a kid. Good dollhouse people are hard to find (they are all blonde) so this is one I had, and I'm sculpting the others from this weird soft modeling clay made by crayola. Its white, very light and feels like you're sculpting with Divinity candy.

I'll post some pics of the people once they are dry and painted. I think she'll like it!

Wedding Shoes...

I'm still making paper shoes, and this pair was customized for a friend's wedding. Her colors were... can you guess?...hot pink and black. She also loves cameo style silhouettes and glitter!

Craftaluma has come and gone and I am left a little disappointed, but happy to have had the experience of my first craft show. Being its first year, I think this craft show has tons of potential, but I was saddened by the lack of attendees. The Veteran's Hall was a fine location, but the roadside signage was small, and I drove past the venue without noticing it. The crafts at Craftaluma were a bit of a hodge podge, some punk rock, some in the traditional etsy style, fresh and fun, and others a bit church bazzar.



I was happy to have met two very awesome crafters extrodinaire named Hillary and Linnea of Plain Baby Jane and unPaper (respectively).
Their booth was beautiful and they had some of the best and most adorable items I've ever seen including a lunchbag sack made with Heather Ross fabrics complete with bento box inside by Linnea. Hillary displayed beatiful handmade dolls, handmade panties for kids fashioned from funky fabrics, and plushrooms, a lavendar filled fabric mushroom (so adorable)!

All in all it was a good experience. I look forward to another one!

Craftaluma Show in 2 Days!!!!

2 days until my first craft show. I hope Craftaluma is a success, as I have been working very hard in preparation! At the show I will be unveiling my miniature scenes, housed in glass cloche. Some hold paper shoes while others contain little creatures! I also have paste paper and gocco printed tea towels and a few other goodies. I am so excited!!!!
