Went to Unbound today with my friend Susanne. The show at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek features Book Arts by various artists both locally and nationally recognized. Some of my favorite works are as follows...
Evidence of Compression by the amazing Julie Chen of Flying Fish Press. Chen's limited edition books range from shaped books housed in complex box structures to wooden games with carefully crafted components.
I loved these little nature studies on discarded library check out cards made into an accordion book.
I love this piece by Emily Payne. It appeals to my fabric loving side because it reads as a textile from afar, and that palette and arrangement of hues is so seductive! 
These amazing Touchstones by were so velvety and soft! They are for sale at the show for a mere $60 each.
I discovered artist Andie Thrams for the first time today. I adore her observation journals; They are so immediate and direct! Her images are full of life and color and all the text is handwritten. Much of the work in the show is comprised of limited editions. These little gems stood out not only for their exquisite quality but also because they are unique, one of a kind books, made by the artist.
I loved this accordion pop out book entitled Quell by Alison Yates. The presence of the artist's hand evident in the woodcuts is an aesthetic that is so pleasing to me. The story illustrated is that of a hunter who attempts to shoot a deer only to find it is really a woman with whom he falls in love...
These silhouettes were so striking against this curry colored wall. They were made with a series of tediously sewn cross stitches on a found book. Artist Lauren DiCioccio.
Aaron and I made les macarons this afternoon at Baking Arts in San Francisco.
The class lasted about an hour and a half and we each made a batch of 10 macarons from start to finish. The owner and instructor, Richard, was very knowledgeable and friendly. With classes of about 6 people the atmosphere was pleasant and perfect for beginners! I definitely recommend the class to jump start your macaron making!

Book Making from Start to Finish and in Between
Saturday, June 6th through June 27th, 2pm - 5pm at Arts Benicia Studio
This four week course will cover a myriad of art and writing techniques that culminate in a final accordion book structure. Each class will focus on a specific set of techniques with the theme of the final book running through out the course.
June 6th - Paste Paper

June 20th - Text, Theme and Storytelling
June 27th - The Accordion Book
The girls always want a project, but its especially important on nights where its just them and me. Tonight we did a quick painted chocolate project that was lots of fun and none too messy!
By using white coating chocolate, chocolate dies and a plastic mold, the girls created these pink and yellow painted bee chocolates, which are absolutely adorable!
Clean up was minimal and we even got out the paint brushes!
Went to the opening of The Art of a Community exhibit at Arts Benicia tonight. I was so happy to have found this arts organization in my somewhat nearby neighborhood. Although I live in Vallejo, I find myself on First St. in Benicia far more often that any downtown Vallejo street. 
2 days until my first craft show. I hope Craftaluma is a success, as I have been working very hard in preparation! At the show I will be unveiling my miniature scenes, housed in glass cloche. Some hold paper shoes while others contain little creatures! I also have paste paper and gocco printed tea towels and a few other goodies. I am so excited!!!!
