A fun little collection of image transfer projects from the book, and from classes. Its amazing how versatile image transfers are. I find that I use them on paper in quick correspondence, in gift wrap, on fabric, on wood, on metal on anything almost! They can be immediate are spontaneous or the base of a mixed media piece as just one of many layers. They more I play, the more I love them.

Upcoming Workshops
Come take a workshop with me! Image Transfers at SFCB is a great place to start for anyone who wants to play and still get really professional results. You'll learn a dozen ways to transfer found images and text to other surfaces. Sign up here for the August 29th class... spots limited and this class usually sells out!
I'm so excited to be teaching at the Teahouse studios in Berkeley again. This beautiful space is the perfect place to spend a weekday evening making an original little beeswax collage. Using photos, paper ephemera and other findings create a sweet little tableaux on wood. Sign up here for the September 27th class.
If you've always wanted to make your own little books, cards or zines this is the perfect class for you. In Intro to Bookbinding at SFCB we'll cover 5 basic structures that allow for great variations and modifications. From here you'll be able to make dozens of structures and be ready for your next step in adventures in bookmaking. Sign up here for the August 27th class.
Hope to see you in a workshop!

Surreal Photography of Lissy Elle and Maia Flore
So I discovered the site Illusion 360 today and was inspired and awestruck by nearly every post. The site is dedicated to the "world's most amazing..." (fill in the blank), and it delivers. From fashion to architecture to photography and more, each piece featured is an amazing work of art. I was especially struck by the images of surrealist photographers, Lissy Elle and Maia Flore. Here are a few pics that captured my imagination and heart...

Found Photo
I love finding things. I especially love to find something that tells a story. A great find could be an object that is worn down from being handled too often, or a photo that gives a momentary peek into someone else's life. This photo I bought this at an antique sale. I love the shy pride that a child exhibits when their photo is taken, the bottled up excitement of a birthday visible on their blushing cheeks. This little girl in her conical birthday hat, her perfectly starched dress and shiny patent leather shoes, looks down in a moment of internal joy at the thought of the approaching party... at least that is a possible story...

I came across this photo of me when I was about 2 when I was scanning family photographs to upload to digital picture frame I bought my Grandma last Christmas. I think of this weekend and the dozen of photos I snapped so easily with my digital SLR of Mila and her friends at her birthday. Nadia at 6 1/2 reminds me of me when I was that age. Confident and prancing around the park in a pair of butterfly wings, posing for the camera. Photos are so easy these days. Most often they remain images sitting on a chip, a hard drive or a desktop file. How often do I search out the album on the bookshelf? Hardly ever. When I was a teenager, I used to look through the albums of me as a child, remembering certain holidays or favorite, long lost toys now immortalized in a glossy 4x6. I wonder if Nad and Mi will remember the moments those photos were snapped. Will Mila remember her 4th birthday at the park, the lemon and vanilla cupcakes melting in the sun? I don't remember this day, this backyard stoop or this hat. The two front teeth are a familiar sight; I still have those, larger than the rest of teeth smiling back at me...

Spoiled? Nah....

I came home after spending the afternoon with MJ, and found an Indian feast waiting for me! My boyfriend cooks the most delicious Indian food (despite the fact that he's a white boy from the Pacific North West). He recently purchased this amazing cook book called 660 Curries. I have been lucky enough to have eaten many mouthwatering dishes from this book without having cooked a single one myself! Tonight was cabbage with steamed lentils and pan-fried tamarind okra accompanied by Aaron' s delicious basmati which he usually seasons with cardamom and cinnamon; its light lemony and my favourite! I'm a lucky girl!
