in the driver's seat
I have the tremendous good fortune of knowing Sam. Sam makes something everyday. It is usually in the shape of a letter, perhaps a sketch or character, and it is always magical. This is a show Sam has imagined for me; a collection of images I have taken while driving.
thank you, Sam.

Color
Andie's watercolor palette
I took a class all about color with Andie Thrams at SFCB this past weekend. Andie is an bookmaker, and observational sketcher, a nature lover and above all a master of color. When we introduced ourselves early Saturday morning, I said that it wasn't color itself that led to be to this class, but the organization of color. I love things in "rainbow order," for lack of a better phrase. I love to group color with its complimentary, with is neighboring color or just reorganize my colored pencils even though I might be in the middle of a very messy studio. The beauty of color arranged is so, so seductive...

One of the first known color wheels, this one by Moses Harris. This image is one of many great images found in a treatise on color by Sarah Lowengard.
Love this image of Crayola colors and their evolution since 1903. And since I'm OBSESSED with this, I have a whole pinboard of images you can oogle, all of things organized and having to do with color. Trust me, these pics bring happiness!

NYC
I went to New York for the first time. It was amazing. There was snow on the ground when we arrived at 6AM on a Friday morning, and the sun glinted off icy roof tops as we rode from the JFK into Manhattan.
I went to the Strand bookstore, which has been on my list to-do since forever. And I asked the guy behind the counter to recommend the best coffee, which led us to Paradis which was tiny and warm and full of amazing baked goods, homemade jam and tiny tables and chairs occupied by happy New Yorkers eating breakfast.
I saw my favorite Brooklyn girl, and we dug around a tiny shop filled with stamps looking for that perfect image... and then I met this boy Keat, who makes stamps and draws zines and I bought his book.
And I saw amazing displays and bought beautiful objects.
I rode on the Subway.
I walked the streets of New York from morning til night and saw many, many things.
I saw beautiful art.
I saw miniature art.
I saw cool art.
I ate good food in good company.
and I took many, many pictures. Thanks, New York. I hope to see you again soon.

Fall in Prague 2011
It was warm when we arrived. T-shirt and jeans sort of weather. Not the crisp and bright air I expected. No room for fluffy scarves, leather boots and heavy wool coats. Dreams of sipping tea in a street side cafe looking through a foggy window was replaced with a picnic in the park and an endless afternoon of sunshine. But after a few days, the weather changed and the wind carried away the golden dried leaves that sat, listless just a few days before... these are a few pics from the beginning of the trip I took last year to Prague.

How does it work?
Creativebug is enamored with Pinterest (who isn't!) so to participate in this contest, you must first be following Creativebug on Pinterest, then create a Pinterest board that includes at least 5 projects you have made, or projects on Creativebug that you would like to take, plus an official contest pin from the Creativebug I made this! Contest Board at http://pinterest.com/ creativebuginc/. Call your Pinterest board "I made this!" and then go to Creativebug's blog at http://blog.creativebug.com/i- made-this-contest/ and enter the link to your Pinterest board and your email address so they can contact you and tell you when you WIN!
To increase your chances of winning, after you build your Pinterest board you can leave a comment here on MY BLOG with just your name and email address. You can also visit the blogs of my fellow Creativebug instructors, and leave a comment on their Creativebug contest posts. Each comment counts as one more entry! (Limit one comment per blog though.) This overwhelming sense of nostalgia is problematic... its a longing that cannot be satisfied, for what you miss so deeply never existed anyhow.

Print & Pattern
Loving the play of print and pattern thats popping up everywhere. From fashion, to fine art, home decor and graphic design, bold shapes and colors in repeat have set my heart a flutter!
I wear a dress everyday, so when I saw this dress by Secret Squirrel and lusted after it instantly!
Love the combination of jade green, coco brown and the sort of foresty olive green that it creates in this graphic by Jelle Martens. Im so drawn to geometric shapes layered over natural images, organic playing against hard edge lines... like this stag made by Maxime Quoilin.
And you can bring this pattern phenomenon home too... buy artwork from aaron moran, great graphic prints from Eloise Renouf, check out this awesome iphone case by Dawn Gardner, these cool pillows by barkdecor on etsy or these adorable shoes.
