Its been a super busy month and I'm excited to announce some upcoming workshops...I'll be teaching for the first time at Press: Works On Paper in San Francisco. Press is an awesome shop featuring small press books, limited editions, and hard to find and rare vintage items in addition to other awesome literary and design treats. I'll also be teaching an Image Transfer process class at Saffron & Genevieve Friday Oct 28th. If you haven't been to this delightful shop, you're in for a treat. Earth Day at San Francisco Center for the Book

San Francisco Center for the Book held a free Earth Day Event this past Saturday and I made a squid print!!!!! Inspired by Japanese fish printing, these research specimens (not alive) were inked up with waterbased ink then contact printed

A Day in the City

Spent the day in SF with my friend Alicia. We started at her house with a breakfast of crepes sprinkled with sugar and a squeeze of meyer lemon juice made by her husband.... they were amazing!!!!



Headed down to the street to Arch to check out art supplies, then to SCRAP for a treasure hunt...

After a walk down Valencia, and a delicious lunch at Papalote's we stumbled upon this wonderful shop appropriately named Gypsy Honeymoon. I found a few beautiful pieces there including a vintage still life oil for a bargain! The proprietor, Gabrielle Ekedal, is the fourth owner and treasurer hunter Gypsy Honeymoon has had in its 17 years open. Gabrielle is warm and welcoming and has created a beautiful store full of delicate vignettes and rare findings. Its a truly unique collection, reasonably priced and thoughtfully, artfully crafted. I can't wait for a return visit!!!

The Chair: Revisited

So this was posted on Apartment Therapy and received 27 comments so far. Wow! People really hate this chair! Some had really harsh things to say and others had some really good and funny comments. I must say its weird to be fully critiqued  on design aesthetic when this was a 24 hr job. I find the whole thing hilarious! In the end, I am happy with the chair and hated the other fabric, although there were many on apt therapy that loved the before! And for the person who thought I should use velvet on the back of the chair... I did! Thanks for all the feedback!

Baby Shower

Quilt made for friend Kaley's soon to be arriving baby boy, Lucca.
I took a motif from the fabric and Gocco printed the elephant onto the woodgrain fabric.


Plus, I love the cupcakes made for her shower by her friend Annie...some babies were drowning in the frosting. Disturbing and delightful all in one tasty bite!

Filoli House

MJ and I visited the Filoli House for her birthday. I had visited the Muckross House in Killarney Ireland last year, and it was my favorite thing on the trip. The Muckross House was purchased by the owners of Filoli, the Bourn's, for their daughter as a wedding gift. The Grand Ballroom at Filoli is painted with murals of the Muckross Estate. I was curious to see the connections between the two estates, and Filoli lived up to expectation.


This tree was beautiful, massive in size with drooping branches that touched the brick walk beneath it.


There are many gardens at Filoli. This patch of lavender was among my favorite.

A Venture to Scrap in SF

Went to Scrap this afternoon to check out the offerings. I've heard a lot about this place, and wanted to see what goodies I could find there. Some have compared it to Berkeley's Urban Ore, but it was more in the flavor of Center for Creative Reuse...a place for raw materials and whatnots instead of furniture and architectural salvage.

Scrap has a shelves of paper, rows of bindings and fabric remnants, and much more. Among my favorites, were the spools of thread and old sewing patterns.




We found a couple of good things, but there is lots of promise for finding treasures at a place like this.
