A Favorite...

Have had little enthusiasm for posting lately, but thought I would share an artist who's work I've loved for many years. Montreal based artist, Sophie Jodoin, is one of my favorites. Her drawings are black and white on mylar. Her subjects are usually "difficult and challenging: little people, the elderly, the wounded ." Check out her other works on her website...

Happy Father's Day

My Dad started his own business the year I was born. He worked long days, weekends, and on occasion would drive up separately on family vacations because he couldn't be away from his work. He was however, not absent by any means from my childhood. Time with my dad was always treasured. He would take me to book stores in Berkeley or antique shops to hunt for presents for my mom, our trips always punctuated with a stop at Peets for a cappuccino for him and a cookie for me. On my seventh birthday he presented me with a microscope, a present that stood out from the dolls and clothes I loved, but that had been obviously my mother's choosing. As a teenager we would go to the museum for a special exhibit or drive to Cal for a lecture given by a Nobelauriate . Many nights we went to the CSU library so he could read Barrons, leaving me to browse curiously through college stacks. My dad is one of the smartest and honest men I know and I am so lucky that he is the one man in my life who will always be there.

For my Dad and for all the Dads out there... Happy Father's Day

The last time I saw you...

The last time I saw you did I say a proper goodbye?
Did we kiss and promise to meet again when you were older, or did I let you go without a second glance?
Did I wish you happiness and love?

No.

The last time I saw you both, I read you a story and kissed you goodnight.
I whispered that I would see you in dreams, have a fairy tea party or sail with you on my pirate ship. I gave you many kisses, but somehow they were not enough.

I shut your door, leaving you somewhere between awake and sleep not knowing that I would not see you again...

I wish I had realized that it was my last chance to say goodbye, my last chance to tell you I loved you and wish you happiness for all the days ahead.

A New Verb for the English Language

My boyfriend just posted this on my facebook:

Word definition
Cerruti (verb) current American English. Urban. To make something incredibly cool, and precious by hand, quickly. As in: "Look at that painting. It is amazing, and perhaps just as good as a Leonardo. Did you just cerruti that?"

Gelée de Thé - A Delightful Treat!

A new find! The rooibus tea called Bourbon (Thé Rouge Bourbon) by Mariage Freres is one of my favorites. This past weekend we discovered this delightful jam or gelée they make in the same flavor. Admittedly, this would be a very easy jam to make, just tea, pectin, sugar and lemon juice. But one of the indulgences of Mariage Freres is their dramatic packaging, noir et jaune vivant. Atop hot buttermilk biscuits, it was delicious!!!
